How to guess it?
This advertisement was very tricky. One important clue was, of course, the city named here. The text mentions exclusive service from Houston to an unknown destination. No wonder so many people thought of Continental Airlines, since it has a hub in Houston. But you forgot an important detail…
This ad is obviously aimed at the traveller living in the United States, and makes it sound, in this context, that Houston is the hub. But in fact, it is an European airline where Houston is a DESTINATION. The hub is… London-Gatwick! Read again and you will understand why the praise of the _____ cuisine doesn’t make too much sense if you put the words “North American”! Now you know that British Caledonian was one of the few foreign airlines to fly non-stop to Houston at the time.
