Guess The Airline – September 2004 answer

Every month, an airline printed advertisement, minus airline name and logo, is displayed for your guessing pleasure on Guess The Airline. The following is the answer to a previous game.

It amazes me how one has the two opposites at each game: many people who guess it right from the start… and many who overlook some very obvious clues. We remind you this was a magazine ad published in this airline’s inflight magazine edition of February 1996. Ready? Scroll down!

Delta Air Lines advertisement titled: 'Even if all these airlines merged...', from the year 1996, featuring an aircraft tail featuring the logos of many airlines.

“Amsterdam | Berlin | Brussels | Copenhagen | Dublin | Frankfurt | London | Madrid | Manchester | Milan | Moscow | Munich | Nice | Paris | Rome | Shannon | Zurich”

How to guess it?

This ad had several very obvious clues. You can already eliminate all the airlines featured on the tail. “Even if all these airlines merged, we’d still fly nonstop…” means that the mystery airline is not part of the happy bunch on the tail. Plus, it flies many non-stops from the US to Europe. It’s got to be a US airline. Think. MANY flights to Europe, non-stop to Berlin, Copenhagen, Moscow, Nice for example AND, on top of that, has a mini-hub in Frankfurt. TWA’s presence around Europe was not what it used to be in 1996, so we are left basically with the other major airline: Delta (and it’s post-Pan Am European heritage)!
