Guess The Airline – January 2009 answer

Every month, an airline printed advertisement, minus airline name and logo, is displayed for your guessing pleasure on Guess The Airline. The following is the answer to a previous game.

Once again, this was an advertisement published on a Newsweek issue of 1985. Are you ready? Scroll down!

Republic Airlines advertisement titled: 'Perks. You've earned them', from the year 1985.

How to guess it?

The major clue was the somewhat common name of the program: Perks. The slogan “We make you feel like flying” could have also been of a big help. The airline used a DC-9/MD-80 aircraft as depicted on the picture. So, Republic Airlines it is, now part of Northwest Airlines… and soon-to-be the new Delta Airlines.

In case you’re wondering why the phone number was hidden from the original ad, here’s the reason: the number has been reassigned not to Northwest Airlines, but to Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, and it connects you directly to a live representative. Had you dialed that number, you would have had no choice but to say, like this author did the first time, that you dialed the wrong number!

Correct answers: 69% | Wrong answers: 31% | Most submitted wrong answer: Northwest (10%) | Other answers submitted: AeroMexico, Alaska, American, Ansett, Muse Air, PAL, Reno Air, Southwest.
