Guess The Airline – June 2009 answer

Every month, an airline printed advertisement, minus airline name and logo, is displayed for your guessing pleasure on Guess The Airline. The following is the answer to a previous game.

Once again, this was an advertisement published on a Maclean’s issue of 1986. Are you ready? Scroll down!

Lufthansa advertisement titled: 'Efficiency Expert', from the year 1986, featuring a smiling German flight attendant.

How to guess it?

There were very few but crucial clues on this advertisement. In 1986, it was an Aeroplan partner. It could not be Air Canada, the founder of Aeroplan, because they would have used a different wording such as “Our frequent flier program”. The wording on this ad belonged more to an Aeroplan partner. The “Canadian Gateways” of Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal may have made some reinforce their theory that it was Air Canada. As of 2009, the airline flies to those four Canadian cities (even though service to Montreal was interrupted for many years, and is now seasonal). But then… the airline’s uniform did not match Air Canada. That, plus the simplistic style of the advertisement, with a title, a picture and the airline’s logo, could only mean one airline: Lufthansa.
